KALEIDOSCOPE SEMINAR AT THE IFI IN DUBLIN

In November as part of Kaleidoscope seminar at the IFI in Dublin, there was a panel discussion on making films for young audiences.

The session was entitled Childhood on Screen and was chaired by Tony Tracey. Klas Viklund from the Swedish Film Institute made the key presentation with follow up speeches from Rebecca O’Flanagan, Martin Duffy, Dearbhla Walsh and Donald Taylor-Black.

The session went well with much of the discussion centring around the resources and supporting structures that need to be put in place in order to allow this area of film-making to flourish and also the reasons for the relatively low level of applications for children's / family films and the particular difficulties they face in the marketplace.
