Irish Crime Drama BETWEEN THE CANALS Released in Dundrum this Week
Following its recent successful release in the IFI, action-packed Paddy's Day crime drama BETWEEN THE CANALS, written and directed by Mark O'Conor and starring singer-songwriter Damien Dempsey, is set to screen in Dundrum for a week from 1st- 7th April.
The film follows three small time criminals, trying to get on in a society that is fast leaving them behind. Liam is a small time dealer who wants to quit his life of crime to become an electrician and provide for his girlfriend and son. Dots, is a crazy, irresponsible thug with ambitions to become a big time dealer. Scratchcard is a drug user with no ambitions but to stay on social welfare and watch the world go by. Liam is torn between life in the flats and his responsibility to be a good father to his son. He has to just get through this one day and maybe things will look brighter on the other side. But it's Saint Patrick's Day and, in Dublin city, this means trouble everywhere.
BETWEEN THE CANALS also stars up-and-coming actors Peter Coonan and Stephen Jones alongside a fantastic group of supporting actors from the Northside as well as the debut acting role from Damien Dempsey who also features on the soundtrack. Produced by Deirdre Barry for Avalon Films, the production and distribution has been supported by Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board.

Written and directed by Mark O'Connor, BETWEEN THE CANALS centres in Dublin's north inner city, where Liam is a small-time criminal whose life consists of dealing drugs, getting into fights and sticking by his friends. But now his girlfriend is pregnant and he wants to change all that to become an electrician and a provider for his new family. Produced by Deirdre Barry for Avalon Films, the film recently screened at the Capital Irish Film Festival in Washington D.C.
