BSÉ/IFB and Enterprise Ireland Support 'Ireland on Screen' at MIPTV

Board Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board (IFB) is supporting the Ireland on Screen booth in partnership with Enterprise Ireland at this year's MIPTV which takes place in Cannes from the 4th-7th April.

The busiest week of the year for the content industry, being the first MIP Market of the year, MIPTV gives the world its first taste of the newest programmes, freshest formats and latest innovations for TV, Internet, Mobile and all Video-rich platforms.

This year there will be a diverse selection of Irish representation including production and animation companies as well as Irish broadcasters in attendance at the market.  Octagon Films, World 2000, and Parallel Films in particular will be actively promoting Irish-made television series including Camelot (for Starz), Neverland (for Sky Movies) and Treasure Island (for Sky 1). Camelot is debuting at the market with a screening on Monday 4th April, followed by a Q&A with its stars Joseph Fiennes and Eva Green.

Oscar-nominated Cartoon Saloon (The Secret of Kells), Jam Media (Roy, Funky Fables), Telegael (Tutenstein) and Caboom (Beary Boo) will also be out in force expanding on the recent successes in the Irish animation sector.

The aim of BSÉ/IFB at the market is to meet with international producers and broadcasters, reinforcing Irelands strong profile as a destination for television on the back of a wide number of successful projects which choose Ireland as a film location last year. The IFB's Film Commissioner, Naoise Barry, and Deputy Chief Executive Teresa McGrane will be attending.

"2010 was  a record year for incoming television production, the value of the independent TV sector to the Irish economy in Ireland in 2010 was estimated at €167 million in terms of spend on local jobs, good and services. Ireland has developed a strong reputation on the back of The Tudors, as a leading international co-producer of "event" television.   We first met the UK producers of Primeval (for ITV & ProSieben) at Mip in 2009, leading to a €12 million investment in the Irish economy last year. MipTV provides strong business opportunities for our industry in terms of attracting inward investment to Ireland.", said Naoise Barry, Film Commissioner, IFB.
