ONE HUNDRED MORNINGS released in Irish cinemas from Friday 6th May
The critically acclaimed Irish feature ONE HUNDRED MORNINGS, written and directed by Conor Horgan, is set to hit cinemas nationwide this week from Friday 6th May.Set in a world upended by a complete breakdown of society, two couples hide out in a lakeside cabin hoping to survive the crisis. As resources run low and external threats increase, they forge an uneasy alliance with their self-sufficient hippie neighbour. With no news from the outside world they can't know how long they must endure living in such close quarters, and with such limited supplies.
Unspoken animosity fills the air, and a suspected affair is driving a wedge between them all. Poorly equipped to cope in a world without technology and saddled with completely conflicting worldviews, everything begins to disintegrate. Finally, each of them faces a critical decision they never thought they'd have to make.
The film stars Ciaran McMenamin (The Last Confession of Alexander Pearce), Alex Reid (The Descent) Rory Keenan (Intermission), and Kelly Campbell (Bachelors Walk). It was produced by Katie Holly and Blinder Films, under the Catalyst scheme which was financed by BSÉ/IFB, the BAI, Filmbase with the support of the Arts Council and TV3.
ONE HUNDRED MORNINGS has screened at a host of international festivals since it debuted at the Slamdance festival in January 2010 and also had a successful limited release in Brooklyn, New York in March this year, receiving glowing reviews from the critics:
"Playing like balm to the soul of anyone quivering from too many overworked, over-agitated multiplex experiences, Conor Horgan's "One Hundred Mornings" uses an apocalyptic event as a springboard into the human psyche" Jeannette Catsoulis, The New York Times
"Conor Horgan's film smartly takes the short view of end-of-the-world survivalism" Andrew Schenker, Village Voice
"contemplative, and compelling drama" New York Magazine
"An insidiously intelligent post-apocalyptic drama... achingly humane and stringently observed in its own quiet way" Brandon Harris, Filmmaker Magazine
"A taut, compelling drama that sucks you in and won't let go" Ross Whitaker, Film Ireland Magazine
"It was a turn of genius by writer/director Horgan not to focus on the catastrophe that led to their isolation, but focus on the after effects of what surely is the end of modern Irish life as we know it." Brogen Hayes, Reel Reviews
"One Hundred Mornings is both harrowing and humorous, though the overarching tone is one of grim stoicism. Horgan elicits some fine performances from his tiny cast, and a cloying claustrophobia is expertly juxtaposed with a vast, surrounding emptiness."
