US Distributor Olive Films Nabs Sales for Irish Feature 'The Runway'
Critically acclaimed Irish feature THE RUNWAY is set to get a U.S release later this year as American distribution company Olive Films have picked up the rights to the film.Written and directed by Ian Power, THE RUNWAY is loosely based on true events when a Columbian pilot crashes his plane in a field in Co. Cork in 1983 and how a local boy with basic Spanish convinces the town to fix the plane and build a runway. The film was produced by the award-winning Fastnet Films, who also produced Rebecca Daly's The Other Side of Sleep which will be screening during the Directors Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival next week.
THE RUNWAY debuted at last year's Galway Film Fleadh where it scooped the prize for Best Feature and has gone on to garner great success on the international platform with particular interest from audiences in the U.S. It was the biggest ticket seller at the Best of the Fest strand at the Palm Springs International Film Festival earlier this year and has also been officially selected to screen at the San Diego Latino Festival, the Chicago Irish Festival, the Dallas Film Festival and had a Special Spotlight screening at the Newport Beach Film Festival.
Speaking about the film, producer Macdara Kelleher commented that "The Runway is a feel-good film that really seems to speak to American audiences based on the screenings of the film at festivals so far".
The film will also be released in cinemas in parts of the Middle East, China and Latin America by Mexican company Quality Films later this year with negotiations on-going for Brazil, Argentina, Italy and the U.K with 6 Sales.
