IFB leads Irish Delegation to ‘Produced By’ Conference in Los Angeles

Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board (IFB) and a delegation of Irish producers travelled to LA last week to attend the third annual 'Produced By' conference and meet with US producers.

The IFB took at booth at the conference, under the 'Ireland on Screen' banner where IFB staff and Irish producers promoted the section 481 tax incentive and Ireland as a film location.  The conference had a record year drawing more than 2,200 attendees (over double the numbers that attended last year) and over 300 film commissions from around the globe.

2010 was a record year for incoming television production to Ireland.  The value of the independent TV sector to the Irish economy was estimated at €167 million in terms of spend on local jobs, goods and services.  International events such as the "Produced By" conference provide strong business opportunities for the Irish film industry in terms of attracting inward investment to Ireland.

The aim of the Irish presence at the conference was to meet with international producers and broadcasters, reinforcing Ireland's strong profile as a destination for film and television production on the back of a wide number of successful projects which chose Ireland as a film location last year such as Camelot (for Starz), Neverland (for Sky Movies), Primeval (for ITV & ProSieben) and Treasure Island (for Sky 1) and The Tudors previous to that.

The Irish delegation which included Irish producers from companies such as Fastnet Films, Samson Films, Subotica and Treasure Entertainment all attended the conference which was in association with the Producers Guild of America and AFCI Locations.

With speakers like Harvey Weinstein, Lawrence Gordon, Darren Star and many more the conference covered a variety of issues for producers including new media, global finance, producer/director collaboration, distribution, independent film, scripted television, reality television, digital content, brand identity and much more.

The third annual "Produced By" conference took place at the Walt Disney Studios 3rd - 5th June.
