As If I Am Not There to go on Irish DVD and VOD release on Friday July 1st
Juanita Wilson's critically acclaimed directorial debut AS IF I AM NOT THERE will be available on DVD and VOD from Friday July 1st.
As If I Am Not There tells the story of a young woman from Sarajevo whose life is shattered the day a soldier walks into her apartment and tells her to pack her things. Rounded up with the other women from the village and imprisoned in a warehouse in a remote region of Bosnia, she quickly learns the rules of camp life. The day she is picked out to ‘entertain' the soldiers, the real nightmare begins. In a final act of courage or madness, Samira decides to make one last stand: to dare to be herself. And this simple act saves her life.
Based on Croatian writer Slavenka Drakulic's real life experiences overseeing the proceedings of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia at The Hague.
The film picked up three major awards at the Irish Film and Television Awards earlier this year for Best Film, Best Script and Best Director. Wilson, whose short film THE DOOR was nominated for a Best Short Film Oscar last year was named as one of Variety's Ten Directors to Watch in 2011 earlier this year.
