Love Will Be In The Air With This Year’s Short Shorts at the Galway Film Fleadh

As will be shown in this year's Short Short films love can come in many guises - a person, a place, a passion. There's a preoccupation with finding it and it can be found in the strangest of places. This year's short film theme ‘Ireland - I Love You' has produced films that not only tell tales of love in Ireland but also tales of love for the country, its heritage and its people.

A young man is on the brink of emigration in James Stacey's animated short ORIGIN. But as he races through the streets of Dublin he comes to realise the spirit he is leaving behind. Co-written by James and Matthew Darragh, the short was produced by Sean Smith for Souljacker. James previously worked on the Brown Bag animation series Olivia, Noddy and The Octonauts.

Elaine Gallagher's short AN RINCEOIR demonstrates a young girl's grá for Irish dancing as she competes at a féis. Produced by Susan Thomson for Underground Films.

Written and directed by Dylan Cotter, WASHED UP LOVE follows Moira who is looking for love but love doesn't even know he's missing. With photography by IFTA winning PJ Dillon (The Runway, 32A), the film was produced by Fiona Kinsella for Jumper Productions. Dylan previously wrote the very successful short musical comedy Dental Breakdown which was also produced by Fiona.

Orla Walsh's RIDERS TO THE SEA tells the tale of breaking waves, racing hearts and the treachery of lycra as a surfing duel breaks out between a male and female surfer. Produced by Ian W Davis for DIG Productions who also produced the short The Night Nurse.

DOWNPOUR written and directed by Claire Dix is an ode to Ireland and to the rain; love in the rain, love of the rain, love of a country drenched in rain. Starring Muireann Bird (Eamon), Cian Barry (Doctors, Shameless) and Marion O'Dwyer (Love/Hate, Ondine) the film was produced by Nodlag Houlihan for Zucca Films.

The 'Short Shorts' scheme is funded by Bord Scannán na hEireann/the Irish Film Board.

This year's 'Short Shorts' will premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh on Saturday 9th July at 2.30pm in the Town Hall Theatre.
