The village of Schull becomes a cinema screen for this year’s Corona Fastnet Short Film Festival

Buzz is building for the 5th Corona Fastnet Short Film Festival, one of the newest and most talked about short film festivals to emerge in recent years. The festival takes place in the picturesque town of Schull, Co. Cork and will feature more than 200 films over 5 days from May 22nd - May 26th.

Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board (IFB) is delighted to partner with the festival on a number of panel events including Storytelling for Stage and Screen, Show Me the Money - Funding your Film and a focus on Animation in Ireland. Other highlights of the festival line-up which are in association with Screen Training Ireland include An Evening with Jack Gold, an Andrzej Bartkowiak Cinematography Workshop, Plasterers & Thatchers - Adventures in the Hair and Make Up Department and Anatomy of an Internet Series with David Quin.

The festival aims to bring together established and first time filmmakers to celebrate short film. The festival is committed to screening as many of the short films entered into competition as possible, by streaming them on their own intranet network to venues all over the village of Schull. There will also be wifi hotspots available, so festival goers can view the films on smart devices and laptops throughout the village.

Lenny Abrahamson's What Richard Did will screen in the Village Hall on Thursday May 23rd and the festival will screen a number of IFB funded shorts throughout the five days including Lorcan Finnegan's Foxes which was selected for international competition at this year's Clermont Ferrand Short Film Festival, Andrew Legge's The Girl with the Mechanical Maiden which screened at the world renowned Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year and Conor Finnegan's animated short Fear of Flying which picked up the Best Animation award at last year's Galway Film Fleadh.

The festival will also provide a forum for a number of interesting panel events, workshops and masterclasses designed to engage the audiences and invite discussion on various topics.

This action packed festival wraps up on Sunday evening with the festival prize giving ceremony.
