Success for IFB funded Short Films at the Galway Film Fleadh

Bord Scannáin na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board (BSÉ/IFB) funded short films The Missing Scarf, Rúbaí, The End of the Counter and Coda scooped up a number of awards at the Galway Film Fleadh which took place from the 9th - 14th July. This year, the Fleadh celebrated its 25thanniversary  and closed with a bumper awards ceremony on Sunday evening. The ceremony was attended by President Higgins.

Eoin Duffy's The Missing Scarf picked up the James Horgan Award for Best Animation.  Made under BSÉ/IFB Frameworks animation scheme, the short tells the story of Albert the Squirrel who is searching for his missing scarf and ends up finding something much more valuable. Following  its win The Missing Scarf, which was produced by Jamie Horgan for Belly Creative, is now eligible for entry into the Oscar Short Film competition.

Louise Ni Fhiannachta's Irish language short Rúbaí took home the Best First Short Drama award. Written by Antoin Beag O'Colla, Rúbaí tells the story of a young girl who, while her class is preparing for their First Holy Communion, announces the she is an atheist and refuses to participate. Produced by Gemma O'Shaughnessy for Magamedia Teo, Rúbaí was made under BSÉ/IFB Gearrscannáin short film scheme.

The Best Short Documentary Award went to The End of the Counter which was written and directed by Laura McCann. Produced by Aisling Ahmed for Crow Hill Films, it captures the moment in 1965 when grocery shopping changed forever. The End of the Counter  was made under BSÉ/IFB's Reality Bites short film scheme.

The Don Quijote Prize in the animation short film category was given to director Alan Holly and producer Ciaran Deeney for their short animation Coda. Made under the Frameworks animation scheme, Coda follows a lost soul as it stumbles drunkenly through the city and meets death who shows him many things. Produced by And Maps And Planes, Coda was also given a special mention in the James Horgan Award for Best Animation.
