THE CANAL and LET US PREY: world premieres this week
Two IFB-funded feature films will have their world premieres this week:
The Canal, written and directed by Ivan Kavanagh, produced by AnneMarie Naughton for Park Films, and starring Rupert Evans (Hellboy) and Antonia Campbell-Hughes (Albert Nobbs, Kelly + Victor) premieres on Friday, April 18th, at 10pm, as part of the opening weekend of the Tribeca Film Festival. Shot in Dublin in summer 2013, The Canal tells the story of David Williams (Evans) and his wife, Alice (Hannah Hoekstra), who move into a period house by the canal with their small child, Billy. As David begins to suspect that his wife is cheating on him, he also starts to have nightmarish visions of an evil presence he believes inhabits his home. Let Us Prey will screen at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival tomorrow, Thursday, April 17th, at 10pm, with a second screening on Friday, April 18th, at 2pm. The film’s director, Brian O'Malley, star Liam Cunningham, and Irish producers John McDonnell and Brendan McCarthy (Fantastic Films) will be in attendance. Buy tickets here.
The film follows Rachel (Pollyanna McIntosh), a rookie cop on her first night shift in a neglected police station in a backwater town. One of the inmates (Liam Cunningham) is an enigmatic stranger who begins to take over the minds of the police officers and his fellow inmates, leading to a crazed night of blood-spilling mayhem.
