FREE TEST SCREENING PROGRAMME AVAILABLE FOR FEATURE FILMS
As part of Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board’s (BSÉ/IFB) continuing commitment to the successful distribution of Irish films to both Irish and international audiences, the national screen agency is delighted to announce a new free Test Screening programme available for BSÉ/IFB funded feature films. This service is available to producers, directors, distributors and sales agents of BSÉ/IFB-backed films to assist them in conducting impartial test screening(s) for their project at various stages of the process.
Test screenings have become an increasingly popular tool in estimating an audience’s reaction to a film. They provide an opportunity to show almost complete or finished feature films to an independent audience with no previous knowledge of the film.
Following the screening, which will be organised by BSÉ/IFB, audience members will complete a detailed questionnaire about their reaction to the film and its characters. In some cases a select number of the audience may be asked to take part in a focus group. The results shall be compiled by an independent facilitator.
The aim of the test screening is to allow directors, producers, and distributors obtain unbiased feedback from their target audience. This information can help to exploit the full sales potential of a project and to develop a successful marketing and distribution strategy.
“I congratulate the Marketing Unit on the launch this initiative, which is one of several programs we shall be initiating and/or strengthening to further our support for the effective distribution of Irish films at home and abroad,” said BSÉ/IFB CEO Mark Woods. “As the national screen agency, BSÉ/IFB is determined to make every effort to give Irish films the best shot at being seen by as many people as possible.”
