New Animated Shorts to premiere at the Fleadh reveal the latest in Irish Animation Talent

Audiences at this year's Galway Film Fleadh can see the premieres of the latest animated shorts produced under the Frameworks scheme.  The exciting line up will once again showcase the immense talent in Irish animation.

Recent Frameworks projects which have gone on to garner international awards and recognition include Eoin Duffy's The Missing Scarf and Coda directed by Alan Holly. Narrated by George Takei, The Missing Scarf was eligible for Oscar nomination after winning the top animation award at not one but two Oscar qualifying festivals in Galway and Los Angeles. The film made it to the final ten for the Academy Award® for Best Animated Short 2014 and went on to win at several other international festivals. Coda took home the top prize for Best Animated Short Film at this year's South by Southwest, film festival in Texas also making it an Oscar qualifier for 2015 and it too has gone on to win top awards at overseas festivals including the Edinburgh Short Film Festival.

The Frameworks scheme aims to combine a creative exploration with an ability to appeal to a wide audience and this year's programme once again achieves just that. The programme includes Deadly (Aidan McAteer), Somewhere Down the Line (Julien Regnard) and Unhinged (Tom Caulfield).

Also screening is The Duel which was part funded by Bord Scannán na hÉireann /the  Irish Film Board (IFB).

Deadly, tells the story of Boney, a working stiff who doesn't care about his job until he has a run- in with a spirited old lady named Bridie. Directed and written by Aidan McAteer and produced by Shannon George for Kavaleer Productions, the main characters in this animation are voiced by well known Irish talent namely  Brenda Fricker (My Left Foot, Veronica Guerin) and Peter Coonan (Love/Hate, King of the Travellers).

In Somewhere Down the Line a man's life, loves and losses are shown through the exchanges he has with the passengers in his car.  This moving animation was written and directed by Julien Regnard and produced by Jonathan Clarke for Cartoon Saloon.

Unhinged,  written and directed by Tom Caulfield and produced by Barry O'Donghue for Studio Okinami tells us that the Squeaky Hinge gets the oil, but, what happens when the squeak escapes the oil?

Set in the Unseen University of Terry Pratchett's Discworld, The Duel, directed by Alex Sherwood, Ben Harper and Sean Mullen tells the story of two wizards who "duel" in the efforts to get a book. The Duel was produced by the Animation Hub, a collaboration between the Irish School of Animation at Ballyfermot College of Further Education, Trinity College Dublin (TCD) and the Irish company Giant Animation Studios. Sir Terry Pratchett, leant his expertise to the production, working with both institutions and the team from Giant Animation Studios.
