IFB Shorts Receive Recognition at Galway Film Fleadh

Bord Scannán na hÉireann/The Irish Film Board projects have received recognition in the short film categories at this year’s Galway Film Fleadh.

Roy Keane biography Rockmount, directed by Dave Tynan, was the winner of the Tiernan McBride award for Best Short Drama in association with Network Ireland Television. Telling the story of a young Keane, the film stars 11-year-old Craig Keane Harrington and documents the legendary footballer’s youth in Cork in the 1980s – first playing for Cobh Ramblers before moving to Nottingham Forest in 1990. Produced by Michael Donnelly, the film was established under the IFB’s Signatures flagship short-film scheme.

Also amongst this year’s award winners was Deadly, directed by Aidan McAteer, which walked home with the Don Quijote Award for animation in a short film. Produced by Shannon George, Deadly tells the tale of a working stiff who doesn’t care about his dead-end job – that is until he has a run-in with a spirited old lady, with vocal talent including Brenda Fricker and Peter Coonan.

The Julian Regnard helmed Somewhere Down the Line received a special mention in the Best Animation Sequence in a Short Film category. The film deals with a man’s life, loves and losses through the exchanges he has with the passengers in his car. Produced by Jonathan Clarke, this film was also established under the IFB’s Signatures flagship short-film scheme.

The Galway Film Fleadh is in its 26th year and was held from July 8-13th 2014.
