IFI Teams With IFB For Documentary Industry Day

The Irish Film Institute (IFI) will host a Documentary Industry day on Friday the 26th of September. The event is in partnership with Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board (IFB) as part of the 2014 Stranger than Fiction festival.

In addition to showcasing the latest international and Irish documentary films and providing a platform for Irish filmmakers to showcase their work, the festival will provide the opportunity to foster creative collaboration between Irish and international producers and programmers and bring filmmakers and audiences closer together.

Supported by the IFB, the IFI will host a day of seminars, masterclasses and panels for documentary producers and directors. It will also provide participants with the opportunity to network with major festival programmers, sales agents and commissioning editors with a focus on developing the ability to operate in the international marketplace.

The events for the day are as follows:

11:00am: An extended discussion on “Funding and Selling your Documentary”, which focuses on the money side of factual filmmaking as well as the creative. A broad discussion on getting documentaries made and seen, this session features contributions from Kate Townsend (BBC Storyville), Siobhan Mulholland (Sky), James Hickey (IFB), Niamh O’Connor (RTÉ), Kimberly Warner (Film Agency for Wales), Audrey Shiels (Element Distribution), Ben Kempas (Scottish Documentary Institute) and Anna Bartoskova (Google).

14:30pm: Meet the Filmmakers session, with the opportunity to meet filmmakers who have featured work at the Stranger than Fiction festival, who will talk about the experience of taking their projects from the development stage, through production and beyond. Filmmakers taking part will include Kim Longinotto (Love is All), Andre Singer (Night Will Fall), Sinead O’Brien (Blood Fruit) and Ciarín Scott (In a House That Ceased to Be).

Tickets for this event are free although places are limited. Contact Sharon Corrigan (scorrigan@irishfilm.ie or call 01 679 5744) to reserve your place. Read more about the Documentary Industry Day on the IFI website.
