Offbeat Comedy Gold is Released in Irish Cinemas from October 10th
Gold, a new offbeat comedy and unconventional love story, opens in Irish cinemas from October 10.
Directed by Niall Heery (Small Engine Repair), Gold stars David Wilmot (Calvary), Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones), James Nesbitt (The Hobbit) and Kerry Condon (Rome).
The film has received strong reviews from critics. The Irish Times said the film was “unique and uplifting... Maisie Williams is superb.” Scene Stealers described the film as “Something of a cross between an Alexander Payne and Wes Anderson film, director Niall Heery’s new feature, Gold, transcends both comparisons” and praised the end result as “a film that is funny, moving, poignant, and altogether genuine in its portrayal of the characters and their world.”
Wilmot stars as Ray, who left town twelve years previously after his childhood sweetheart, Alice (Condon), dumped him, taking their daughter (Williams) away from him. Now he must return home at the request of his ailing father, who wishes to see his granddaughter before it's too late. But things take a turn for the absurd when Ray realises his daughter and her mother have built a new life with his former P.E. teacher (Nesbitt), a controlling and regimented figure who is the direct opposite of Ray.
Gold was produced by Tristan Orpen Lynch and Aoife O’Sullivan for Irish production company Subotica in association with Gloucester Place Films with funding from Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board and the BAI.
Gold premiered at the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival in February and also screened at the Galway Film Fleadh in July.
