‘The Canal’ is sold to international territories, including Ireland
Ivan Kavanagh’s horror film The Canal has been sold to various territories by UK genre specialist Jinga Films, including Ireland and the UK via Kaleidoscope.
The news comes as The Canal opens in North America, where it will screen in twenty cinemas and will be released on VOD. The film sold to North America via The Orchard following its screening the Tribeca Film Festival.
The film also screened as part of South Korea’s Busan Film Festival in October, where it was described by BusanHaps.com as “the scariest horror film that has been made in years” and warned that it “will have you squirming in your seat up until the credits roll.”
The film has also sold to Australia and New Zealand (Rialto), Germany, Austria and Switzerland (Universum) and Korea (Brunchmate). Deals have previously been made for Singapore (Red Pictures), Malaysia (Yellow Brick), Middle East (Falcon) and Benelux (A-Film).
Shot in Dublin in 2013, The Canal tells the story of David Williams (Evans) and his wife, Alice (Hannah Hoekstra), who move into a beautiful period house by the canal with their small child, Billy. As David begins to suspect that his wife is cheating on him, he also starts to have nightmarish visions of an evil presence he believes inhabits his home.
The Canal was financed by the IFB, FAW, Atlantic Screen Music, Egg Post Production and Gennaker One and was produced by AnneMarie Naughton through Park Films.
