Brendan Gleeson and 'The Missing Scarf' are Nominated at European Film Awards 2014
Brendan Gleeson is amongst the nominees at the 2014 European Film Awards (EFA), with critically acclaimed Irish films Calvary and The Missing Scarf receiving nominations. Calvary was nominated in the category of ‘European Actor 2014' for Gleeson, while The Missing Scarf has been nominated in the ‘European Short Film' category.
Released in April, Calvary received international critical acclaim and has received over $11 million at the international box office (source: Box Office Mojo), taking over €1.6 million in Ireland alone. Brendan Gleeson previously won the Best Actor IFTA award for his performance. Past winners of the ‘Actor' award at the EFA include Colin Firth, Ralph Fiennes and Javier Bardem. Calvary was written and directed by John Michael McDonagh and was produced by Octagon Films and Reprisal Films.
The Missing Scarf was shortlisted for the 2014 Academy Awards and selected to participate in the Oscar theatrical release, screening in more than 300 theatres in North America. It was also a hit at various international film festivals, winning prizes at the Toronto Animation Arts Festival, the San Francisco International Film Festival, the Chicago Irish Film Festival amongst many others. Previous winners of the Best Short Film prize at the EFA include Terry Gilliam and Irish director Ken Wardrop. The Missing Scarf was directed by Eoin Duffy, produced by Jamie Hogan and narrated by Star Trek actor George Takei.
