Congratulations to the Irish Animation Industry, Whose Work is Celebrated with A New Stamps Set from An Post Highlghting Four IFB Funded Animation Projects
Congratulations to the Irish animation industry, whose creativity has been celebrated with a new four stamp set unveiled by An Post today. The four stamps represent home-grown Irish animation talent with productions including The Secret of Kells, Give Up Yer Aul Sins, Roy and Nelly and Nora, all of which were funded by Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board (IFB). The stamps will also scan to a new trailer promoting Irish animation, featuring music by Kíla, which was funded by the IFB.
Speaking today, IFB Chief Executive James Hickey said: “We are delighted that these four productions, funded by the IFB, have been chosen by An Post to represent Irish animation as part of their new stamp set. The IFB are the largest funder of Irish animation content in the country, producing a world-class standard of work. We are proud to support the industry and the productions as seen in An Post’s new set, including two Academy Award®- nominees with The Secret of Kells and Give Up Yer Aul Sins, a BAFTA winner with Roy as well as Nelly and Nora, which has received much success since its debut in February.”
The Secret of Kells was produced by Cartoon Saloon, Give Up Yer Aul Sins was produced by Brown Bag Films, Roy was produced by Jam Media and Nelly and Nora was produced by Geronimo Productions.
In a first for An Post, the stamps feature Augmented Reality technology to virtually bring them to life. When scanned by a Smartphone with the CEE App installed, a specially produced film featuring Roy, Give Up Yer Aul Sins, The Secret of Kells and Nelly & Nora, and other animated works can be seen.
The four 68c stamps, a first day cover and collector’s item booklet containing four sets of the special stamps alongside additional illustrations and information, were designed by leading Irish design company Vermillion Design and are available from main post offices, from the Stamp Shop in Dublin’s GPO and online at www.irishstamps.ie.
