Gold, Patrick’s Day and Frank Amongst Lineup of Rome’s Irish Film Festa

The Irish Film Festa in Rome kicks off on Thursday, March 26th showcasing the best of Irish cinema to audiences in the Eternal City, including films funded by Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board.

The festival opens with a screening of Lenny Abrahamson’s acclaimed debut feature Adam and Paul, a film which follows two hapless desperate junkies, tied together by habit and necessity.

On March 27 Niall Heery’s Gold will screen, starring David Wilmot, Maisie Williams, James Nesbitt and Kerry Condon. Released in late 2014, Gold recently won the Best Feature award at the Boston Irish Film Festival. Short films including the award-winning Rúbaí and Deadly, featuring the voices of Peter Coonan and Brenda Fricker, will screen in the short film section of the festival on Friday.

The critically-lauded Patrick’s Day will play on March 28, accompanied by a Q&A with the film’s director Terry McMahon, leading actor Moe Dunford and producer Tim Palmer. Patrick’s Day has won international awards including Best Feature Narrative at the Woodstock Film Festival, while Dunford was the Irish recipient of the Shooting Stars award at this year’s Berlinale Festival.

The Irish language feature An Bronntanas, directed by  Tom Collins, will also screen on March 28, which will be preceded by the Irish language short Rúbaí.

On Sunday the Academy Award®-nominated feature Song of the Sea, directed by Tomm Moore, will be shown. This will be followed by Frank starring Michael Fassbender, Domhnall Gleeson and Maggie Gyllenhaal which will include a public interview with director Lenny Abrahamson.
