Ruairi Robinson’s The Leviathan, Developed with IFB Funding, Attracts International Attention
The Leviathan, a proof-of-concept teaser trailer from Irish director Ruairi Robinson, has garnered international attention after it went viral online, with A-list filmmakers Simon Kinsberg and Neill Blomkamp now attached as producer and executive producer on the project according to a number of trade publications. Produced by Robinson and Nick Ryan through Floodland Pictures, the three-and-a-half minute video received development support from Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board.
The Leviathan has garnered over 2 million views since its debut on March 16. The Leviathan is set in the early 22nd century when people can travel faster than the speed of light due to the “harvesting of exotic matter from the eggs of the largest species mankind has ever seen.” Robinson’s first feature film, The Last Days on Mars, was released in 2014 supported by the IFB. He was also nominated for an Academy Award® in 2001 for the animated short Fifty Percent Grey. The script is written by Jim Uhls, the screenwriter of Fight Club.
