Vikings is Renewed for Season 4, Filming in Ashford Studios This Year
There has been good news for Irish production activity as the TV series Vikings, which films on location in Co. Wicklow, has been renewed for a fourth season by the History Channel.
The series order will be worth €45 million to the Irish economy and will ensure that Ashford Studios will remain booked throughout 2015, creating employment opportunities for cast and crew.
Created and written by Michael Hirst (The Tudors, Elizabeth), Vikings was the first scripted series for the History Channel and is an international co-production between Ireland and Canada. The series was developed and produced by Irish producers Morgan O'Sullivan and James Flynn for World 2000 Entertainment, with MGM Television serving as the international distributor. Vikings is broadcast on RTÉ2 in Ireland.
Amongst the Irish talent who have worked on Vikings are production designers Tom Conroy and Mark Geraghty, costume designer Joan Bergin, cinematographer PJ Dillon and director Ciarán Donnelly.
The first series of Vikings received production funding from Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board (IFB) and the series has benefitted from Section 481.
