Irish Film ‘Glassland’ Starring Jack Reynor is Released in Cinemas on April 17

The acclaimed Irish film Glassland, which was funded by Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board, will be released in Irish cinemas on April 17th. Glassland is the second feature film from writer and director Gerard Barrett (Pilgrim Hill) and stars Jack Reynor (What Richard Did), Toni Collette (The Sixth Sense), Will Poulter (The Maze Runner) and Michael Smiley (The World’s End).

Reynor stars as a young taxi driver on the fringes of the criminal underworld who, in a desperate bid to save his mother (Collette) from addiction and unite his broken family, is forced to take a job which will see him pushed further into its underbelly. But will John be prepared to act when the time comes knowing that whatever he decides to do, his and his family’s lives will be changed forever?

The film has been praised by critics. Donald Clarke in The Irish Times described the film as “extraordinary” and noted that “Glassland delivers on the promise and then some.” The Irish Independent described it as “a moving, lyrical and very accomplished Irish drama”, while Matt Cooper on Today FM described it as “Powerful and poignant stuff and Jack Reynor again proves himself a proper acting talent.” A 5/5 review on Entertainment.ie praised the performances and stated “Make no bones about it - Gerard Barrett is a major talent.”

Glassland was an official selection at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, where Jack Reynor won a Special Jury Prize for his performance. It was also the joint winner of the Best Irish Feature award at the 2014 Galway Film Fleadh.

Glassland was written and directed by Gerard Barrett and was produced by Ed Guiney and Juliette Bonass for Element Pictures in association with Nine Entertainment. The film is distributed by Element Pictures Distribution and was financed by the IFB and Element Pictures Distribution.
