Australian Premiere for Irish Documentary ‘Life is Sacred’ at Sydney Film Festival
Irish documentary Life is Sacred has had its Australian premiere at the Sydney Film Festival.
The documentary follows young Colombian activist Katherin Miranda who believes in honest politics and in changing a violent and corrupt country by peaceful means. Inspired by her mentor, the famously strange Colombian politician and philosopher Antanas Mockus, Katherin is on a mission to change the cultural and political identity of her country; a Colombia dominated by illegality, war, drugs and an erosion of trust. Katherin awakens the young generation, and together they create a movement to change the political system. But is it possible? Can they overcome the past and look towards a peaceful future?
Life is Sacred is a Danish-Irish co-production between Final Cut for Real (The Act of Killing; The Look of Silence) and John Keville of Savage Productions. It was funded by Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board, Danish Film Institute, Ministry of Education Denmark, SVT and Gucci Tribeca Foundation
Life is Sacred first premiered at CPH:DOX last November and gained a F:ACT Award nomination. It took part in 2morrow Moscow Independent Film Festival (Russia); !F Istanbul Film Festival (Turkey); ZagrebDox (Croatia); London Human Rights Film Festival (UK); DOCS Barcelona (Spain).
It is due to screen at the Human Rights Watch Film Festival at the IFC Centre in New York, on June 18th 2015.
Cinephil picked up Life Is Sacred for worldwide distribution.
