Irish Films ‘Being AP’ and ‘11 Minutes’ Join the Lineup for Toronto International Film Festival

The hotly-anticipated feature documentary Being AP and Irish-Polish co-production 11 Minutes have become the latest Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board-funded productions to be announced for this year’s Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). These films join the previously announced Room, The Lobster and Brooklyn to screen at the prestigious festival.

Being AP is an intimate documentary portrait of AP McCoy – the greatest jump jockey of all time. As he passes his 40th birthday, an age beyond which most jockeys are unable to continue, AP  contemplates his obsession with winning, the years of sacrifice that he has endured to become a champion, the chase for a 20th successive title, and then a future without racing. This documentary of the recently-retired jockey was directed by Anthony Wonke and produced by Alan Maher, Nick Ryle and John Woollcombe. The production companies were Roads Entertainment, Moneyglass Films and Partizan Films.

11 Minutes was directed by Jerzy Skolimowski, and follows the same 11 minutes in the lives of several different characters representing aspects of modern society. Some characters are shown just as they are about to make life-changing decisions, others are idly passing time, caught in the midst of their day"to"day routines. What they all have in common is an enigmatic sighting of the elusive dark spot, seen in the sky earlier that day, and the tragic chain of events that will seal their fate. It will also screen at the Venice Film Festival in September.

TIFF is regarded as one of the world's most renowned film festivals and is generally seen as an early indicator of Oscar-worthy films. The 40th edition of the festival takes place from September 10th to 20th 2015.
