Exhibition on Costumes in Irish Cinema Opens at Little Museum of Dublin from Friday, August 14th

A new exhibition on costume design in Irish films will open at the Little Museum of Dublin on Friday, August 14th. The exhibition, ‘Ireland at the Movies: Costume in Irish Cinema 1987 – 2015’, can be seen in the Ireland Funds Gallery in the museum.

Celebrating almost 30 years of Irish costume design, the exhibit is curated by Eimer Ni Mhaoldomnaigh (Calvary, Becoming Jane, A Dangerous Fortune) and costume historian Veerle Dehaene. Stretching back to classic Irish films such as My Left Foot and In the Name of the Father, the exhibition also includes costumes from Breakfast on Pluto and more recent films such as Calvary and Jimmy’s Hall.

The costumes on exhibit were painstakingly sourced from the private collections of costume designers and actors who preserved them as personal mementos or as culturally significant items. The exhibition explores the costume design methods and sources used including vintage shops, costume makers, tailors, family heirlooms and more.

The exhibition opens on August 14th and runs until September 28th. For more information, see the Little Museum of Dublin website here. The museum is located at 15 St. Stephen’s Green, Dublin 2.
