Gerard Barrett’s ‘Glassland’ Set for North American Release Following Distribution Deal

Glassland, the acclaimed second feature from writer/director Gerard Barrett, has been picked up for distribution in North America by Film Movement.

Glassland will be released in North America theatrically and on VOD early in 2016. It was released in Irish cinemas in April, receiving widespread praise from critics. It screened in Official Selection at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year where leading actor Jack Reynor picked up a prize for his performance.

Glassland tells of a young taxi driver (Reynor) on the fringes of the criminal underworld who, in a desperate bid to save his mother (Toni Collette) from addiction and unite his broken family, is forced to take a job which will see him pushed further into its underbelly. But will John be prepared to act when the time comes knowing that whatever he decides to do, his and his family’s lives will be changed forever. Glassland also stars Will Poulter and Michael Smiley.

Barrett is currently filming his follow-up feature Brain on Fire in Vancouver, while Reynor will soon be seen in Macbeth alongside Michael Fassbender.

Glassland was written and directed by Gerard Barrett and produced by Ed Guiney and Juliette Bonass for Element Pictures in association with Barrett's Nine Entertainment. The film is financed by Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board and Element Pictures Distribution. Executive producers are Andrew Lowe and Gerard Barrett.
