European Film Award Nominations for ‘The Lobster’ and ‘Song of the Sea’
The Lobster, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos has landed 5 nominations at this year's European Film Awards, while Tomm Moore's Song of the Sea has received a nomination in the category of Best European Animated Feature.
Co-produced by Dublin-based Element Pictures, The Lobster's five nominations were in the categories of Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor for Colin Farrell, Best Screenplay and a previously announced technical win for costume design. This follows last week's announcement that the film topped the nominations for British Independent Film Awards with seven nominations in total.
Following rave reviews, The Lobster is playing in Irish & UK Cinemas where it has grossed over £1 million to date, deemed a break out figure for any independent film. The film is also currently on release in France, Benelux, Australia and Greece where it is returning strong box office figures. It will be released across the globe over the coming months.
Coming from Kilkenny-based Cartoon Saloon, Song of the Sea was released in Irish cinemas in July and is now available on DVD and Blu Ray. This is the latest in a long series of awards and nominations for the critically acclaimed animated feature, including an Academy Award® nomination for Best Animated Feature and an IFTA win for Best Film.
The 28th European Film Awards will be held on 12 December in Berlin where more than 3,000 EFA members will vote on the winners.
