Horror Film ‘The Hallow’ is Released in Cinemas this Friday, November 13th
Galway-filmed The Hallow, a horror which marks the feature directorial debut of Corin Hardy, will be released in Irish cinemas this Friday, November 13th.
Filmed in Co. Galway, The Hallow follows a London-based conservationist (Joseph Mawle, Ripper Street) who moves to Ireland with his wife (Bojana Novakovic, Edge of Darkness) and baby, to survey an area of ancient forest believed by the superstitious locals to be hallowed ground. He unwittingly disturbs a horde of terrifying beings and must fight to protect his family. The film also stars Michael McElhatton (Game of Thrones) and Michael Smiley (The Lobster).
The Hallow was recently nominated at the British Independent Film Awards, where Corin Hardy has been nominated for the Best Debut Director award. The film had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January and has also screened at international festivals including Film4 Frightfest and South Korea’s Busan International Film Festival. It has earned praise from film critics, with many noting its use of practical special effects. Variety noted that “Hardy and co-writer Felipe Marino ratchet up the tension in a series of increasingly clever setpieces”, while The Hollywood Reporter praised that “the stakes remain high and the tension never flags in a film that delivers almost non-stop scares”.
Directed by Corin Hardy, The Hallow was written by Corin Hardy and Felipe Marino and produced by John McDonnell, Brendan McCarthy, Felipe Marino and Joe Neurauter. Production companies were Fantastic Films and Occupant Entertainment and it was financed by Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board, Prescience, Altus Media, Hyperion, Windmill Lane and Studio Solas.
