IFB Congratulates Irish films in Official Selection for Sundance
It was announced last night that two Irish films will have their world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival 2016. Bord Scannán na hÉireann/ the Irish Film Board supported projects Mammal by Rebecca Daly (The Other Side of Sleep) and The Land of the Enlightened by Pieter-Jan De Pue will screen in January 2016 at one of the world's leading festivals for independent film.
The world premiere of Rebecca Daly's eagerly awaited feature film Mammal will take place at the festival as part of the World Cinema Dramatic Competition. Starring Rachel Griffiths, Barry Keoghan and Michael McElhatton, Mammal was produced by Fastnet Films. The world premiere will also take place of feature documentary The Land of the Enlightened directed by Pieter-Jan De Pue and produced by Morgan Bushe for Fastnet Films, which will screen in the World Cinema Documentary Competition.
The Sundance Film Festival, which takes place in Park City, Utah is one of the world's premiere places to debut new independent films and over the course of its more than 30-year history has launched films including Whiplash, Boyhood, Little Miss Sunshine, Reservoir Dogs and Napoleon Dynamite.
Commenting on the selection, IFB CEO James Hickey said: "I am delighted to see that Sundance Film Festival will once again shine a spotlight on Irish cinema in 2016. Irish films which have screened at Sundance include Brooklyn, Glassland, The Guard, and Once - all of which enjoyed great acclaim and have since done extremely well both at home and overseas. Congratulations to all of the filmmakers on their selection to the festival and I wish every success to them."
The 2016 festival takes place from January 21st to 31st 2016 in Park City, Utah. The full programme will be announced in the coming days.
