Mark O’Halloran is Irish ‘Shooting Star’ at Berlin International Film Festival
Mark O’Halloran, co-star of hit Irish film ADAM AND PAUL, has been selected as the 2005 Irish Shooting Star for Ireland. The Shooting Star programme, now in it’s 8th consecutive year is organised by the EFP, with the financial support of the MEDIA Programme of the EU and EFP member organizations, and introduces close to 100 of Europe's most talented up-and-coming young actors and actresses.Chosen by EFP members, the Shooting Stars will attend a series of special events during the opening weekend of the 55th Berlin International Film Festival, which aim to focus the attention of the international industry, media and public on the extraordinary talent that exists in European filmmaking.
O’Halloran is a graduate of the Gaiety School of Acting, Dublin, and has worked as a theatre actor for the last 10 years, performing with major companies in Ireland, Britain and America. Aswell as starring in the critically acclaimed ADAM & PAUL, he also wrote the script and has written a number of award winning plays which have been performed in Dublin, Glasgow and Stockholm.
Produced under Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board’s low budget initiative, ADAM & PAUL has been a huge success at the Irish box office and was shown at the Telluride Film Festival in the US. It will receive its European premiere at the Berlinale 2005. ADAM AND PAUL was produced by Speers Films and Element Films and funded by Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board (BSÉ/IFB), RTE and Xtravision.
Mark O’Halloran will take the lead in the feature film Lingling, written and directed by Paddy Jolley, which begins shooting in summer 2005.
