Golden Globe-Winning ROOM Directed by Lenny Abrahamson is Released in Cinemas this Friday January 15th
Room, the Golden Globe Award-winning feature from director Lenny Abrahamson (Adam & Paul, What Richard Did) and produced by Element Pictures, will be released in Irish cinemas this Friday, January 15th.
Room is based on the bestselling novel by Emma Donoghue, who also wrote the screenplay. Told through the eyes of five-year-old-Jack (Jacob Tremblay), Room is a thrilling and emotional tale that celebrates the resilience and power of the human spirit. To Jack, Room is the world…. It’s where he was born, it’s where he and his Ma (Brie Larson) eat and sleep and play and learn. But while it’s home to Jack, to Ma it’s a prison. Through her fierce love for her son, Ma has managed to create a childhood for him in their ten-by-ten-foot space. But as Jack’s curiosity is building alongside Ma’s own desperation – she knows that Room cannot contain either indefinitely.
The film has earned widespread praise from critics, with a 97% rating on RottenTomatoes.com. Writing in the Chicago Sun-Times, Richard Roeper praised Abrahamson, Donoghue, Larson and Tremblay and hailed Room as “one of the best movies of the decade.” In a 3.5/4 review in Rolling Stone, Peter Travers commented “the performances of Larson and Tremblay will blow you away... Room is a small movie, but its impact is enormous.” In The Atlantic, Sophie Gilbert wrote that “It’s hard to think of a movie adaptation of a book that feels truer and more loyal to its source than Room... it’s hard to imagine that such a bleak scenario could be made so beautiful, but Abrahamson finds poetry in the small details of Room.”
Room has also received a slew of award wins and nominations. Yesterday, Brie Larson was the winner of the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress. Room also received the People’s Choice Award at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival, viewed as the top award at the prestigious festival.
