Best of Luck to the Irish Film Talent in Contention for an Academy Award® this Afternoon
International Profile Already Achieved for the Irish Film Industry has been Fantastic
After months of speculation and anticipation, the 88th Academy Award® Nominations will be announced at 1.30pm GMT.
Irish films Room (directed by Lenny Abrahamson and produced by Element Pictures) and Brooklyn (Directed by John Crowley) are both hotly tipped to be included in the Academy Award® nominations today. Irish actors Saoirse Ronan (Brooklyn) and Michael Fassbender (Steve Jobs) are also in contention in the acting categories. Viva (directed by Paddy Breathnach and produced by Treasure Entertainment) has already been shortlisted to the final ten in the Foreign Language Award category, and five films will get the final nod in this category today.
James Hickey, Chief Executive, Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board said: "I'd like to take this opportunity to wish all the talent working on these films the best of luck, ahead of this afternoon's announcement. It's important to emphasise that whether or not the Oscar hype translates into Academy Award® nominations for Irish talent this afternoon, to have three Irish films included in the Oscar speculation over the last six months has in itself achieved huge and unprecedented profile for the Irish film industry. We should all be very proud of the achievements already achieved by everyone involved in these productions, and this is just the start in many respects - in terms of their global audience engagement and cultural impact"
Room is directed by Lenny Abrahamson and produced by Element Pictures; Brooklyn is directed by John Crowley and produced by Parallel Films; Viva is directed by Paddy Breathnach and produced by Treasure Entertainment.
