About 'The Land of the Enlightened'

In the shadow of Bagram Airfield — the bastion of U.S. military might in Afghanistan — exists a wartime economy that is run and controlled entirely by children. Nomadic Kuchi youngsters dig out anti-personnel mines and sell them to the child workers of the lapis lazuli mines. They in turn blast the precious blue stones free from their ancient resting place, to be smuggled by child soldiers, who control their passage to China and Tajikistan. There, the stones are bartered for arms and opium, the very lifeblood of the Taliban in their war against the U.S. occupation.

Directed by Pieter-Jan De Pue, The Land of the Enlightened was produced by Morgan Bushe, Bart Van Langendonck, Christian Beetz and Femke Wolting. Production companies are Fastnet Films, Savage Film, Gebrüder Beetz and Submarine and Irish finance came from the IFB.

About 'Sing Street'

Sing Street takes us back to 1980s Dublin where an economic recession forces Conor out of his comfortable private school and into survival mode at the inner-city public school where the kids are rough and the teachers are rougher. He finds a glimmer of hope in the mysterious and über-cool Raphina, and with the aim of winning her heart he invites her to star in his band’s music videos. She agrees, and now Conor must deliver what he’s promised - calling himself “Cosmo” and immersing himself in the vibrant rock music trends of the ‘80s, he forms a band with a few lads, and the group pours their hearts into writing lyrics and shooting videos.

Written and directed by John Carney, Sing Street stars Ferdia Walsh-Peelo, Lucy Boynton, Jack Reynor, Maria Doyle Kennedy and Aidan Gillen. Producers on Sing Street were Martina Niland, Anthony Bregman, Paul Trijbits, Christian Grass and John Carney and the production companies were Cosmo Films, Likely Story and Filmwave. Finance came from the IFB and Merced Media Partners.
