Irish Films Including ‘Viva’ are Amongst Winners at ADIFF 2016

The Audi Dublin International Film Festival has concluded for 2016, with Irish films at the forefront of the award winners.

Viva was the winner of the publicly-voted AUDI-ence award. It was directed by Paddy Breathnach, who commented: “I’m thrilled with this news. Dublin is a great audience festival so getting this award means so much to us all. Viva has been a wonderful adventure and this helps keep the adventure going to help bring it to a wider audience.”

At the Short Film Awards, the animation Geist was named as Best Irish Short. Written and directed by Sean Mullen, Ben Harper and Alex Sherwood, it was funded under the IFB’s Frameworks short film scheme.

Meanwhile the ADIFF Discovery Award, judged by a panel of industry experts to identify and champion emerging talent from both in front of and behind the camera, was awarded to actor Barry Keoghan (Mammal, Traders), director/animator Jack O’Shea (A Coat Made Dark) and producer Kathryn Kennedy (My Name is Emily, It’s Not Yet Dark).

Viva was also the winner of the Best Irish Film prize at the Dublin Film Critics Circle Awards, which took place on Sunday evening. The Critics bestowed Sing Street star Ferdia Walsh Peelo with the Michael Dwyer Discovery Award, while Viva writer Mark O’Halloran received the George Byrne Maverick Award. The Best Irish Documentary award was given to Atlantic, directed by Risteard Ó Domhnaill.
