Rebecca Daly’s MAMMAL in Irish Cinemas this Friday

Rebecca Daly's critically acclaimed dramatic feature film Mammal starring Academy Award® nominated and Golden Globe® winning actress Rachel Griffiths (Six Feet Under, Muriel's Wedding) and rising Irish star Barry Keoghan (Love/Hate, '71) will be released in Irish cinemas this Friday, April 1st.

Also starring Michael McElhatton (Game of Thrones), Johnny Ward (Love/Hate) and Nika McGuigan (Philomena) Mammal is the compelling story of a woman (Griffiths) who has lost her son and develops an unorthodox relationship with a homeless youth (Keoghan). Their tentative trust is threatened by his involvement with a violent gang and the escalation of her ex-husband's (McElhatton) grieving rage.

To mark the release, two special opening weekend screenings of Mammal will take place in Dublin. The IFI will host a screening on Friday April 1st, followed by a Q&A with the film's director Rebecca Daly and star Barry Keoghan. This event will be co-hosted by Women in Film and Television. The Light House Cinema in Smithfield will be hosting a screening of the film on Saturday 2nd April which will also be followed by a Q&A with Rebecca Daly and Barry Keoghan, hosted by writer and director Oonagh Kearney.

Shot in Dublin and Luxembourg, Mammal premiered at the Sundance Film Festival where it was one of only five films picked up by the Sundance Channel and was included in Vanity Fair's Top 10 Films of Sundance. It had its European premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and has also screened at the Gothenburg International Film Festival in Sweden. It had its Irish premiere at the Audi Dublin International Film Festival where Barry Keoghan picked up the ADIFF Discovery Award.

Written by Rebecca Daly and Glenn Montgomery, the film was produced by Macdara Kelleher for Fastnet Films (Strangerland, Kisses, The Other Side of Sleep) with co-producers Calach Films in Luxembourg and Rinkel Film in The Netherlands. Funded by Bord Scannán na hEireann / the Irish Film Board (IFB), Luxembourg Film Fund, BAI, TV3, the Dutch Film Fund and the Dutch Production incentive, Mammal will be brought to Irish audiences by Wildcard Distribution with Cinéart distributing the film in BeNeLux countries and Berlin based Picture Tree International (PTI) taking world sales rights.
