Congratulations to winners of 2016 IFTA Film & Drama Awards

 

The winners of the 2016 IFTA Awards for Film and Drama were revealed on Saturday night at the Mansion House in Dublin.

The biggest winner on the night was Room, produced by Element Pictures in Ireland, which won seven awards in total including Best Film, Best Director for Lenny Abrahamson and Best Script for Emma Donoghue.

Oscar nominated actor Liam Neeson was in Dublin to receive the IFTA Outstanding Contribution to Cinema Award - recognition for his celebrated 30 year career in cinema. When presented with the award by the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, Neeson called for a restoration of funding to the Irish Film Board. 

Saoirse Ronan was named Best Actress for her performance in Brooklyn, with Best Supporting Actress going to Jane Brennan for the same film. Jack Reynor picked up the Best Supporting Actor award for his role in Sing Street. The George Morrison Feature Documentary IFTA went to Ken Wardrop's Mom & Me. Geist was named Best Animated Short.

Drama awards included Best Supporting Actress for Sarah Greene (Penny Dreadful) and Best Supporting Actor for Moe Dunford (Vikings).

Director of The Survivalist Stephen Fingleton won the Irish Film Board Rising Star IFTA award.
