SPEAKERS HAVE WORKED ON INTERNATIONAL BLOCKBUSTERS INCLUDING SKYFALL, HIGH-RISE, KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE, THE DARK NIGHT, GAME OF THRONES, THE SECRET SCRIPTURE AND MORE.

Major block-busters such as STAR WARS rely heavily on visual effects wizardry, but even Oscar-nominated dramas such as ROOM and BROOKLYN call upon the talents of VFX artists. Top level Irish and international visual effects practitioners will converge in Dublin next week for visual effects training programme VFX: Script to Screen 2016.

The programme - co-funded by the Irish Film Board and the Creative Europe programme of the EU - will offer Irish and European filmmakers a "big picture" understanding of visual effects and new and innovative digital production processes and technologies, including virtual production and VR/AR.

The programme is designed in collaboration with the VFX Association of Ireland, which is comprised of Irish award winning VFX companies Windmill Lane (BROOKLYN, REBELLION, VIKINGS, TITANIC BLOOD AND STEEL, DRACULA UNTOLD); Screen Scene (INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE, GAME OF THRONES, ROOM, RIPPER STREET, ); Egg Post Production (GHOSTHUNTERS, SINBAD); and Piranha Bar (THE LAST HIJACK). Participants on the programme are experienced filmmakers from Ireland and across Europe, including Finland, Belgium, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia, Slovenia and the UK.

Commenting on the programme Sorcha Loughnane, Programme Director VFX: Script to Screen said:

"This course really showcases the wealth of Irish digital production talent we have in Ireland. This year has proved that the Irish film industry is a world leader, and to have participants travelling from throughout Europe to learn from our best and brightest is a huge endorsement of the role our technical and creative talent has played in that success."

An exciting highlight of this year's programme involves a live VFX shoot led by VFX supervisor Ed Bruce, cinematographer Tim Fleming (REBELLION, AD: THE BIBLE CONTINUES, ONCE) and director John Hayes (HOME FIRES, DOCTOR WHO, GAME OF THRONES, STRIKE BACK, VIKINGS, CAMELOT) incorporating elements of visual effects, special effects and stunts, as well as real time virtual production and virtual reality/augmented reality demos.
