IRISH DRAMA OMAGH NOMINATED FOR BAFTA

14th March 2005: Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board (BSÉ/IFB) co-financed feature OMAGH, the powerful story of the 1998 Omagh Bombing, directed by Peter Travis has just been nominated for a prestigious BAFTA award.

OMAGH has received the nomination in the Best Single Drama category alongside Granada Television/ITV's DIRTY FILTHY LOVE, BBC2's HAWKING and Company Pictures/C4's NOT ONLY BUT ALWAYS. The awards ceremony will take place in London on April 17th.

OMAGH's producer Ed Guiney said, "We are delighted that this film has been recognised by BAFTA in particular because it acknowledges and will heighten awareness of the struggle of the families in bringing the perpetrators of the bomb at Omagh to justice".

In addition, OMAGH has scooped three Royal Television Society (RTS) Award nominations. The ceremony takes place tomorrow night in London (March 15th) and OMAGH is up for Best Single Drama, Best Actor and Best Screenplay. These nominations come on the back of a number of prestigious awards won to date by OMAGH including the Discovery Award at last year's Toronto International Film Festival. OMAGH is set for theatrical release in France and Belgium at the end of March and Spain in April.

"Congratulations to the filmmaking team behind OMAGH. It proves once again, that Irish productions can compete on the international stage", said BSÉ/IFB CEO Mark Woods. "These nominations reinforce the powerful impact of OMAGH on world audiences".

OMAGH was produced by Ed Guiney and Paul Greengrass, executive produced by Andrew Lowe, Arthur Lappin and Greg Brenman and co-financed by the UK's Channel Four, Irish national broadcaster RTE and BSÉ/IFB. International sales are being handled by Portman Film.
