Congratulations to a number of Irish filmmakers who picked up international awards over the weekend

Irish film I Am Not a Serial Killer directed by Billy O'Brien won the prestigious Audience Award at the Sitges Official Fantàstic Film Festival over the weekend and Without Name won four awards including Best Film at the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival.

I Am Not a Serial Killer stars Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future), Max Records (Where the Wild Things Are) and Laura Fraser (Breaking Bad) and had its world premiere earlier this year at SXSW Festival in Austin.

The film tells the story of John Wayne Cleaver, a 16-year-old boy obsessed with serial killers but who really doesn't want to become one. So for his own sake and the safety of those around him he lives by rigid rules to keep himself "normal". When somebody starts murdering people in John's small Mid-West town, he has to investigate and risk letting his own dark side out in order to stop the killer. Irish audiences will have an opportunity to see the film when it is released in Irish cinemas later this year.

Without Name is the debut film from Lorcan Finnegan, starring Alan McKenna and up-and-coming Irish actress Niamh Algar. The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival last month and has picked up four awards over the weekend including Best Feature Best Director, Best Cinematography, (Piers McGrail) and Best Editing (Tony Cranstoun).

Produced as part of the IFB initiative Catalyst Project, Without Name is written by Garret Shanley and produced by Brunella Cocchiglia. The film follows a land surveyor who loses his reason in a supernatural environment that defies all boundaries.

I Am Not a Serial Killer is produced by Nick Ryan in Floodland Pictures with support from the IFB.
