Irish Screenwriters Brian O'Malley and Terry McMahon Scoop MajorScript Award at the Cannes Film Festival 2005
Brian O'Malley and Terry MacMahan have scooped the prestigious sixteenth annual Hartley - Merril Prize for International Screenwriting for their screenplay SISK, developed with finance from Bord Scannan na hEireann/the Irish Film Board .Having already won the irish Tiernan Macbride Script Award, thd duo competed with over 23 different countries and over 2000 scripts to pckup this major iternatioal prize. the award reception was attended by RKO Pictures Chairmen Ted Hartley, Dina Merril, David Cronenberg and Dan Glickman.
Sisk tells the story of "Harry Sisk, an ex-gangster with only months to live, returns home to atone for his sins, but instead must draw upon his violent past as the daughter he never knew existed is dragged into a bloody slaughter between the Irish and Chinese
Both writers will receive a cash prize, as well as be honoured at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles on June 23 in front of an invited audience. While in Los Angeles the winners will get to develop their winning script through an extensive workshop with top screenwriters, as well as attend a number of individual meetings with key industry professionals.
