NEW IRISH ANIMATION: Frameworks Films Unveiled at the Galway Film Fleadh
Five new animated short films, commissioned under the BSÉ/IFB Frameworks scheme will premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh this Sunday 10th July. The Frameworks scheme encourages filmmakers to explore new creative methods of animation, producing films primarily aimed at an adult audience. To date Frameworks has commissioned a number of very successful animated films including Oscar® nominated GIVE UP YOUR AULD SINS produced by Brown Bag Films and the award-wining DUBLIN 1 produced by Monster Animation.
The 2005 Frameworks films once again reflect the high standard of talent working in the Irish animation industry. The films are wide ranging in their creativity, investigating a broad spectrum of interesting themes. They include DICK TERRAPIN, directed by Damien O’Connor, a short black comedy about a pet who hates being a pet, and tries everything to get his owner to hate him in return. O’Connor has directed a number of animated short films including LE DOG, which won the Diploma of Excellence at the KROK Animation Festival in 2002.
Kealan O’Rourke has directed BEFORE SUNRISE a beautiful tale of magic where a shadow can fall in love with a flame, with music from pianist Connor Linehan and animation created by Brown Bag Films. BEFORE SUNRISE was animated O’Rourke also has a Short Short film SILVER LINING premiering during the Galway Fleadh.
BARE is a story about love and infatuation, directed by Jane Lee. Jane’s background is model making and the design and building of props for theatre.
AMONG STRANGERS, directed by Naomi Wilson, is an adaptation from David Thompson’s “People of the Sea, Celtic Tales of the Seal-Folk” which compiles stories from Ireland and Scotland. Using a sand-on-glass technique of animation, AMONG STRANGERS is a follow up to Wilson’s previous film REHY FOX, which was released in Irish cinemas in 2003.
Eoghan Kidney’s STARS tells a tragic story of a young woman descent into illness due to a fatal neuron disease. Using animation the film constructs a dual reality between our perception and the woman’s altered perception of reality through her hallucinations.
Audiences will have an opportunity to view these films during the Galway Film Fleadh this Sunday 10th July at 2.30pm. For more information on the Frameworks films visit Frameworks Films
