INNOVATIVE IRISH CINEMA AT THE EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
Short film RIGHT NOW LADIES AND GENTS, written and directed by John Paul Murphy, and Paddy Jolley’s experimental feature film SUGAR, have been selected to screen in competition at this years Edinburgh International Film Festival.The Edinburgh International Film Festival is one of the largest UK film festivals with a strong reputation for championing innovative and exciting new cinema over the last 50 years.
RIGHT NOW LADIES AND GENTS is a darkly comic tale about a lonely young man who is persecuted by an overly-zealous bouncer and stars Eamonn Owens (The Butcher Boy) and Pat Kinevane (King Arthur) in the leading roles. The short was produced by Rubicon Films with funding from RTE, Filmbase and Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board and was one of only twelve short films selected from around the world to compete in the international section.
Paddy Jolley’s brilliant experimental feature SUGAR has also been selected to screen at Edinburgh following on from its international premiere at the International Rotterdam Film Festival earlier this year. SUGAR was produced by Zanzibar Films with funding from Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board, the NIFTC and the Guggenheim Institute
The Edinburgh Film Festival runs from August 17th - 28th.
