IFTA Best Irish Film Nominees Announced
ADAM & PAUL, HEADRUSH, INSIDE I’M DANCING AND MICKEYBO & ME have all been selected as the 2005 nominees for the AIB Best Irish Film Award at the Irish Film & Television Awards. The Irish public will vote online and via text and the winners will be announced at the gala ceremony on November 5th.Directed by Terry Loane MICKYBO & ME is the story of two young boys obsessed with 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid' and tells how this infatuation leads them from fantasies into a great adventure. The film stars John Jo McNeill and Niall Wright and was produced by New Moon Pictures and Octagon Films with funding from BSÉ/IFB.
Leonard Abrahamson’s ADAM & PAUL is a stylized, downbeat comedy which follows two junkies through a single day, which like every other, is entirely devoted to the business of scrounging and robbing money for drugs. The film stars Mark O’Halloran and Tom Murphy and was produced by Speers Films under the BSÉ/IFB Low Budget Initiative.
INSIDE I’M DANCING follows Michael, long-term resident of Carrigmore Home for the Disabled, whose life is transformed when the maverick Rory O’Shea moves in. Rory’s rebellious nature soon inspires Michael to discover a whole new world outside the walls of Carrigmore. The film was directed by Damien O’Donnell and stars James McAvoy and Stephen Robertson. It was produced by Octagon Films with funding from BSÉ/IFB.
HEADRUSH is a tongue-in-cheek comedy caper about two young stoners, Charlie and T-Bag, who orbit society in a haze of dope and dreams. Directed by Shimmy Marcus, the film stars Wuzza Conlon and Gavin Kelty and was produced by Zanzibar Films under the BSÉ/IFB Low Budget Initiative.
