Irish company VENOM FILMS houroured at Nordic Panorama Festival

Irish production company Venom Films was honoured last weekend with a special programme at the Nordic Panorama Film Festival in Bergen, Norway. The programme included all of the short films that the company has produced including Ken Wardrop's multi-award winning film UNDRESSING MY MOTHER.

The Nordic Panorama Festival is one of Scandinavia’s foremost documentary festivals. It is a rare honour for the festival to invite filmmakers from outside the Nordic block to present their work. Andrew Freedman, a producer ay Venom Film, said that he was “both delighted with the reaction the films received and encouraged by the amount of interest from the International buyers that attend the market at the festival.”

This event follows a very successful week for the production company whose films have been scooping International awards. Their IFTA award winning short film UNDRESSING MY MOTHER received the Golden Iris for Best Short Film at the inaugural New Montreal Film Festival.

Also this week, the film received the Bronze Award at the Best of Festival in La Ciotat, France and the Director’s Choice Award at the forthcoming Boston Irish Film Festival. The film has already received a European Academy Award nomination, the winner of which will be announced at a ceremony later this year.

USELESS DOG, also directed by Wardrop and produced by Venom Films, won the Best Documentary prize at the recent Sligo Film Festival and an award for the Best Original Score at the European Short Film Biennale Ludwigsburg in Germany.

Both UNDRESSING MY MOTHER and USELESS DOG received completion funding from the Irish Film Board and will be on general release with features later this Autumn.

OUCH, Venom’s final National Film School, IADT co-production has begun its festival life with screenings this month in Cradiff, Detmold and Tokyo.
