NEW IRISH TALENT: 'OSCAILT' AND 'SHORT CUTS' PREMIERES AT THE 50TH CORK FILM FESTIVAL

The Premiere of the latest SHORT CUTS and OSCAILT films, which take place on Saturday 15th October at the 50th Cork Film festival, present an opportunity for audiences to check out the latest offerings by up and coming Irish directors, writers and producers.

SHORT CUTS aims to add to the range and scope of Irish short film-making and to encourage new talent in all areas of film production. The scheme is co-funded by Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board and Radio Telefís Éireann. Over the past 11 years Short Cuts has proved to be an invaluable launching pad for some of Ireland’s most talented directors and actors, and presents an excellent opportunity to check out emerging and established Irish talent.

Damien O’Donnell’s award winning 35 ASIDE was made under the first Short Cuts scheme in 1994 and led to him to direct the box office hit EAST IS EAST and more recently INSIDE I’M DANCING. Director John Moore, who got his start on BSÉ/IFB-backed short HE SHOOTS, HE SCORES, went onto helm BEHIND ENEMY LINES starring Gene Hackman, and FLIGHT OF THE PHOENIX for Fox.

OSCAILT adds to short fiction film-making in the Irish langusge and encourages talent in all areas of Irish language production. Oscailt has broadened to include fictional pieces in animation, flash animation or docu-drama projects. CLARE SA SPEIR, directed by Audrey O'Reilly was recently added to the National Curriculum for the Leaving Cert Gaelige course.

The Short Cuts premiere will take place in the Kino Cinema, Cork at 11.30 on Saturday 15th October.
The Oscailt premiere will take place in the Kino Cinema, Cork at 4.30 on Saturday 15th October.
