IRISH FILMS SCOOP MAJOR AWARDS AT HOME AND ABROAD
Perry Odgen’s debut film PAVEE LACKEEN has scooped the prize for Best Film at the Irish Film and Television Awards, which took place at the RDS on Saturday night. The film, which will be released in Irish cinemas by Eclipse Pictures this week, also took home the BSE/IFB and NIFTC Breakthrough Talent Award which aims to recognise the new talent working in the film industry.These two big wins follow on the foot of another major coup last week at the London Film Festival where it picked up the Satyajit Ray Award. Awarded to Nicole Kassell for her film The Woodsman last year, this prestigious award commemorates the life and work of the internationally renowned film director and is given to first-time feature director whose film captures the artistry, compassion and humanity of Ray's vision.
Other big winners at the Irish Film and Television Awards include INSIDE I’M DANCING, which scooped People Choice AIB Best Irish Film Award and Terry Loane who scooped Best Script for MICKYBO AND ME. MICKYBO AND ME also won best Custome Design. Best Actress went to Renee Weldon for her role in Fintan Connolly’s THE TROUBLE WITH SEX and Best International Actress went to Gillian Anderson for her role in THE MIGHTY CELT, directed by Pearse Elliott.
SHORT ORDER, directed by Anthony Byrne picked up the award for Best Production Design and A WINTERS END took home the prize for Best Music. The prize for Best Documentary went to BSÉ/IFB backed JOHN MCGAHERN: A PRIVATE WORLD, directed by Pat Collins.
BSÉ/IFB short films have also been picking up awards over the last month. Thomas Cosgrave’s Oscailt film ROGARA won the prize for Best Irish Film at the Kerry Film Festival and CUILIN DULACH, also an Oscailt funded film, took home the prize for Best Animated Film.
CUILIN DULACH also scooped the Best Short Animation Award at the Irish Film and Television Awards this weekend. The new Oscailt films co-funded by BSE/IFB and TG4, premiered at the Cork Film Festival last month where An Teanga Runda picked up both the Audience Prize for Best Film and the Gael Linn Award for Best Irish language film. BSÉ/IFB backed SIX SHOOTER, directed by Martin McDonagh won the Irish Film and Television Award for Best Short Fiction.
PAVEE Lackeen will be released in irish cinemas from November 11th.
