Minister O’Donoghue Confirms Supplementary Funding for the Irish Film Board

Prior to the 2006 budget next week, Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism, John O’Donoghue (TD) today confirmed an additional €1.5 million in supplementary funding for Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board (BSÉ/IFB) for the current year.

This supplementary funding aims to boost the Irish production sector after what has been a slow year for both indigenous and incoming projects.

The Irish Film Board announced the availability of this extra production funding to the Irish industry earlier last month and successful applicants will be selected by the end of the year.

Chairman of the Irish Film Board James Morris said “As a result of Minister O’Donoghue’s initiative, we can look forward to increased levels of production activity next year. This supplementary funding demonstrates again the Government’s commitment to the Irish film industry. It will benefit the sector enormously including talent, employment and infrastructure and will also bring knock-on benefits to other industries such as tourism.”
