Irish film MIDDLETOWN chosen for Robert De Niro’s Tribeca Film Festival in New York
Ireland’s latest feature film MIDDLETOWN, an explosive tale of love, loss and betrayal, has been chosen from feature films around the world to screen as part of the Discovery Section at Robert de Niro’s Tribeca Film Festival in New York. The Tribeca Film Festival, which runs from 25 April - 7 May, was founded to celebrate New York City as a major filmmaking centre and to contribute to the long-term recovery of lower Manhattan.Shot in Monaghan and various locations across Northern Ireland, MIDDLETOWN tells the story of two brothers wracked by internecine rivalry - one for the love of his family, the other for the love of his god. The film is a poignant reminder of the destructive power of fundamental belief and ultimately the redemptive nature of love.
Award-winning producer Michael Casey comments “Tribeca has rapidly become one of the most significant film festivals and it is a real honour to have been invited to premiere Middletown there. We're hoping that the film captures the imaginations of the New York audiences and the North American industry.”
Directed by BAFTA-nominated Brian Kirk (Murphy’s Law, Pulling Moves) and scripted by one of Ireland’s hottest writing talents Daragh Carville, MIDDLETOWN features an outstanding cast including Matthew Macfadyen (Pride and Prejudice, In My Father’s Den); Eva Birthistle (Ae Fond Kiss, Breakfast at Pluto); Daniel Mays (Vera Drake) and Gerard McSorley (Omagh; Veronica Guerin).
MIDDLETOWN is produced by Michael Casey (Freeze Frame); Ireland’s Producer on the Move at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival and is set to a haunting score by award-winning composer Debbie Wiseman. MIDDLETOWN is financed by Bord Scannán na hÉireann/Irish Film Board and the Northern Ireland Film and Television Commission and will be released in cinemas across Ireland in autumn 2006 by Eclipse Pictures.
