IRISH SHORT PLAYING WITH SCARY MOVIE 4
Irish short film It’s Some Kind Of Voodoo is currently playing in 60 cinemas across Ireland in front of US feature film SCARY MOVIE 4, distributed by Buena Vista International (Ireland).It’s Some Kind Of Voodoo is written and directed by Nicky Phelan, narrated by Neil Hannon of the The Divine Comedy, and puppeteering is by Sophie Krog. The short is a dark and Gothic tale of unrequited love and disproportionate revengetold with string puppets. When a frustrated artist is rejected by the girl of his dreams, he turns to voodoo to punish her - but voodoo has its own ideas
It’s Some Kind Of Voodoo was produced by Heidi Madsen and Alan Mahar of Once Off Films and financed by Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board as part of the Short Shorts scheme, which aims to produce ultra short pieces to be screened theatrically in front of feature films.
Phelan previously studied animation in the Ballyfermot College of Further Education. His graduating film, ‘Foetus’, was selected and screened in the Galway Film Fleadh 2003 in the Best New Irish Animation Short category. Nicky has most recently created and directed the 10 part series ‘Crap Rap’ with Brown Bag Films for RTE Television.
Once Off Films has just finished shooting the ambitious short ‘The Faeries of Blackheath’, written and directed by Ciaran Foy, and has several projects in development.
